Hi, great videos. So glad I found you!! Currently crate training our 9-week-old puppy. Question though, is crate time during the day the same thing as nap time? So for example if we just did a 20-minute crate time session where I worked with her the barking and whining, only going in when she’s calm etc and I let her out. Now that she’s out she wants to take a nap. Should I put her back in the crate?

I am getting my second dog after 10 years ….. and I am excited to bring him home next month! You are doing a fantastic job. Some products, as you mentioned, are not available in Canada, so I am making a massive list of stuff to buy when I visit the USA after the COVID19 situation.

Really needed to watch this. I’m away from home 6-7 hours a day but I’m lucky that I still live with my folks who telework right now. Would you recommend having them let out to pee and play and go right back to the crate? Or would you suggest that letting them in a play pen a bit before going back to the crate? I mentioned puppy gate and I got hit with such resistance from my folks that I’ll depend on heavily until I can properly train and bring them out in public for service training

Bringing home a new puppy next week. Just found this channel and love love love it! Keep up the great work. Thank you!

I enjoy watching your videos. There are lot of “trainers” out there. You definitely know what you are talking about. I would also enjoy seeing more hands on. I think the visual kind of stick with people more that just hearing about it. Regardless, I am on the same page as you when it comes to training. Keep up the good work. I have had dogs my whole life. Just brining home a new puppy in December and I feel like I forgot everything. This is definitely a good refresher. Thank you

Great Video! I use the crate for nighttime sleeping only at this point. He is 6 months and I keep the crate in the bedroom and this works well for us. For the last month or so I now use a pen during the day for when I am out or he just wants to go in it to nap. My question, which you answered, was how long I could leave him in the pen now when I am out. Thanks!

I just got a brand new puppy, I was feeling bad about how much time I was told he should spend in the crate. After a few accidents on my floor, I am now dedicated to crate training. Thank you for sharing this, I keep my crate in my dressing room because its super dark in there at night but where the crate is positioned, my pup can still see me.

So sorry we are just seeing this comment now. I apologize that we didn’t see it sooner. We hope all is well with you and your pup. Keep up the good work!

@How To Train A Dream Dog I’m very pro crate but didn’t realize how much I should be doing it when I’m here. I’m starting today with my 10 week old puppy who i’ve had for not quite 5 days beyond when I run an errand, night time and showers. we played outside and pottied and now she’s whining in her crate but is starting to calm so hopefully helpful for when I leave to go outside the house.

Love the way you convey the info, thanks ! We have a new puppy, utterly gorgeous, was pretty much house trained at 8 weeks, just one pee……..she’s working on the sleeping in the crate now, very stressful, but she’s getting better 🙂
Clara Heimburger
All of your videos have been so helpful to me in the last week of getting my puppy. I’ve been so stressed that I’ve been doing everything wrong, so hearing your advice and affirmations of things I’ve been trying to do is so nice and helpful.
I had wanted to ask if you had advice about if there’s an appropriate time to check on a puppy if they’re doing more than just whining, like howling or shrieking. I worry he’s panicking or it’ll cause him to become more anxious.
His crate is in the living room since we spend lots of time there. We tried having him in the bedroom but knowing we were close by and he couldn’t be with us made it worse. Should I just ignore him and let him tucker himself out at night even when he sounds like he’s being possessed?
Thanks for all your hard work, your videos are amazing.

As I’ve seen other videos on this, but I like your straight forward way of explaining. We just got a 4 month old chocolate lab, and fortunately I’m able to work from home sometimes, so I’m trying to crate train her while working from home. I’m glad you mentioned not putting bedding or anything in there. We had a big blanket, but I removed it as she was chewing on it.
