If you have a very busy life, plan on it getting much, MUCH busier with the addition of another living being that needs so much more than a bit of food and water! You will need to be their playmate, their physical trainer, their emotional support, their safe place when random things scare them, their daily hygiene assistant, their best friend, their entrusted guardian and the one their world revolves around. So yeah, if you are too busy to provide these basic health and well being essentials that actually require lots of time and attention, PLEASE don’t even consider getting a dog… regardless how “independent” some dogs of some breeds may seem to be!

Dog breeds that can be left alone a lot: NONE. Don’t get a dog if you’re too busy to care for it.
Dogs are pack animals, and should be treated as a part of your family, not as a garden ornament.

Do not get a chow unless you can properly train them. Chihuahuas would prefer to be on your lap all the time. Like yorkies
