It’s amazing when a dog can do what people could not. One of those skills is being able to sniff out human scents. There are trained dogs that precisely do that. One such dog was Max.
Max has been a search and rescue dog where he helps find lost people, especially in the wilderness. One of Max’s success stories is when he saved a 79-year-old woman named Margaret.
Margaret went out to buy groceries one day and rode a bus on her way home. Unfortunately, she missed her stop and was dropped off at a different area. She was fine with it because she knew that there was a shortcut going to her home.
She did not expect that the path going to her home had been neglected for 40 years. There has been a lot of overgrown plants in the area, and everything looked different. Everything was unfamiliar to her that she got lost.
Margaret hid under a tree since it was getting dark. She stayed there for three days. She had to endure two nights where the weather was cold.
Police have been alerted by her absence, and they have been searching for her for days. There was even a helicopter with heat sensors that combed the woods. They could not find her.
The police department wanted to pull all of their stops, and the last one was using Max. They were hoping that Max could find what they couldn’t. His handler, Alex Lyons, was doubtful that Margaret survived the cold nights. Still, he was confident about Max and his skills.
After a couple of hours, Max was able to sniff out Margaret’s scent. They finally found her.
Everybody involved in the rescue was grateful that Margaret was finally found. Margaret was extremely grateful to everyone, especially to Max. She would always consider him as her hero.
