I have a rescued 1 year old golden doodle. We’ve had her just 4 weeks today. She is 60#’s. She did good in crate 1st 2 times. She went in for treat and I closed the door. She was there for about 1 hour. Third time I had an appointment I had to leave quickly. Had already walked her. She only went in crate half way. I nudged her in, gave more treats and left. Hubs got home and found bottom tray out in the middle of the floor, bars on crate bent and one bar broken. We returned it for a heavy duty one. The door is on the side so she can reach every treat going only half way in. I sat in the same room next to the crate literally all day. Smeared a small amount of peanut butter on each bar and gave her treats and praised her when she went in but never shutting the door. By end of day I stopped giving treats and she went in and laid down on her own and went to sleep. I’ve continued to give her treats when she pokes her front half in and have given her a puzzle toy inside. She will still stay halfway in and has not gone back in completely. She went to the door this morning just poking her head in and waited for her treat or puzzle. Not sure what to do next. Is it ever ok to put her in and shut the door? She’s not a small pup anymore. She has severe separation anxiety too.

Hi there, Markie! Love to hear about the effort you’re putting in on your crate training. It’s ok just to put your pup in there as you are building your dog’s comfort in the crate. The more frequently she goes in and out, the easier it will get. Happy Training!

I have a 6 month old staffordshire bull terrier named Penny! This video really hit home. I’m going to try the chill-out puppy plan this afternoon. Do you or anyone at McCann Dogs have experience training bull breeds?

@McCann Dog Training Would this include a Xoloitzcuintli or a Mexican Hairless dog? Just adopted a puppy, 11 weeks now. And found her temperament to be quite different than my previous dogs. She’s incredibly smart, but also has her own very persistent agenda. Is there any videos with this dog specifically?
