True love can conquer even the longest distance. This was what Oregon Army National Guard Sgt. Erin Guthrie recently proved as she got reunited with a dog named Meeka. Sgt. Erin first met the dog when she got deployed in Kosovo. Sgt. Erin did not expect that she would build a good rapport with the dog because Meeka was too timid.
But despite the dog’s personality, Sgt. Erin managed to form an unbreakable bond with the pup. During their time together, both Sgt. Erin and Meeka became inseparable, and they did many activities together. But as they say, good things do not last forever, as Sgt. Erin had to go back to New York.
The officer knew that she does not stand a chance to bring the dog with her in New York. This is why Sgt. Erin was so heartbroken when she left Kosovo. Of course, the dog felt the same thing because Meeka experienced separation anxiety when Sgt. Erin left.
In an interview, Sgt. Erin mentioned that she never expected that she would form a bond with someone during her deployment, much more to a dog. But since Meeka is not hard to love, Sgt. Erin could not help but fall for the dog.
During the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the officer considered adopting a dog. However, when she visited an animal shelter to look for a dog to adopt, Sgt. Erin did not feel the connection she felt with Meeka.
At that time, Sgt. Erin knew she had to do everything within her power to bring Meeka to New York. Fortunately, a group named Paws of Wars became instrumental in making Sgt. Erin’s dreams come true. Sgt. Erin and Meeka reunited through the organization’s help, and the officer could not hide her excitement when she fetched the dog at the airport.
Today @PawsofWarUSA reunited a soldier with a dog she fell in love with overseas. The timid dog fell right into her arms. More coming up on @CBSNewYork! pic.twitter.com/RrsTh4RQte
