The effects of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were not only felt by people but also dogs. One of the dogs who was greatly affected is this corgi named Potato. The dog lives with his fur parents in Portland, Oregon. The pooch is an outgoing pet, so when the lockdown began in Portland, Potato’s parents knew that the pooch would have a hard time.
The dog’s mom, Cee, said in an interview that the pooch loves everyone in the neighborhood. This includes other dogs, the kids, and the grownups. More than this, the pooch also has an excellent rapport with the mail delivery persons from UPS and FedEx. Unlike other dogs, the pooch does not run after these delivery men and instead plays with them.
In short, the dog loves to be around other people. In the same way, the pooch likes getting tummy rubs and kisses from the people around him. When the lockdown started, the pooch wondered what was happening. His usual routine got derailed, so Potato developed separation anxiety. Cee tried to explain the situation to the pooch, but Potato could not process this idea.
Cee perfectly understands what the dog felt. This is why the dog owner developed a way so that Potato would still receive the tummy rubs and hugs he loves. Cee wrote on a note posted outside the dog’s cage that people could still pet the pooch. However, the people who would like to do this activity should follow health protocols. This includes disinfecting before and after petting the pooch.
This idea seemed to work well for Potato because people began to be around him once again. The pooch loved the attention he received even during the pandemic. On the other hand, Cee is pleased that her pooch gets to be with people again.
