Using a retracable leash is likely to be the worst dog training tool when training a dog to walk on a loose leash. There are a couple scenarios, this may be the BEST dog training tool in your training!

So if you're looking to improve your dog's loose leash walking skills, be sure to watch this video before reaching for that retractable leash.

I feel guilty about keeping my high energy Aussie in the house. I feel the need to give her some freedom when out on a walk

rather take her to a park instead of leaving her off-leash on a walk👍

Agreed! I actually use this with my malamute in a two way approach. Locked and loose with heel command and then our break command I let him go loose and he can pull (which is what his breed is supposed to do!). My dog needs to run (we walk in a large open cemetery) and off leash areas are a no go for us

Walked my friends dog with this leash once she told me to shorten it when a car came I couldn’t do it in time luckily I grabbed it so stopped her from running into the road
Don’t know how people think they’re good for walking I’ve a lot of cases where a dog clearly has no control

Where I live those leash are forbidden by law (over 400$ fine), but we are also obliged to use an harness and not a simple collar for dogs of 40 pounds and more.

I am glad I don’t live where you do. A retractable leash does have a time and purpose. Folks need to be smarter than a dog to train a dog.

I hate retractable leads, the amount of times dogs have ran onto the road in front of me with them!

My 70 lb pup is a crazy puller. I ended up going back to a Halti. She doesn’t like it, but she’s much better behaved on our walks.

I also got a major cut across my shin from the leash cord when my Jack Russell decided to chase something. That was the day I got rid of the retractable leash. 😩

I will never use a retractable leash on my young dog. Way too dangerous for both of us! Thanks for the video. One of these days I will make the move to buy the life skills course.
