Excellent video as usual, can you do couple of videos for deaf dogs please 🙏

What are you using for treats?

My hyper 6 month old retriever mix tries to initiate play with me by biting my hands. She perseverates on it so much & she only does it to me, my husband has to hold her back half the time. I have to leave the room, but when I come back she goes right at it again because she’s so excited.

My 5 mo rottweiler does the same thing. I’m going to try this video exercise.

I’m in the same situation! Every time I walk into a room my 11 month pup goes nuts, jumping up and “mouthing” aka biting me! He grabbed hold of my sweater sleeve yesterday and managed to pull me across the room (yes, he is that strong) so I’m getting quite desperate with what to do!

Never engage with her if she initiates withdraw energy. Say ouch! Any teeth contact act super shocked withdraw energy. Use it’s your choice concept with everything you’re doing. Google it. Good luck!

Do you have suggestions on how to deal with a puppy who eats/shreds their bed?
Janet Sedy
Don’t put a bed in the crate. Train the dog first to lie on a bed and “stay” and only allow the bed under your direct supervision. And of course, you have the house leash in the dog. If the dog starts pawing or biting the bed, interrupt and redirect his behavior to play with something else.

When would you say is an ideal time to teach a puppy this? We have a 9 week old puppy who is rambunctious and wild. He’s only been home with us a couple days and we know this is important bonding time to play but our arms are getting torn up 😂

You can start doing this now. Puppies learn best what they learn first

Thanks!

Thanks for another great video. Do you have a video that shows how to train a dog how to take a treat gently? By the end of training, my fingers are sore from being bit.
mmcreads
When my dog is excited her mouth is so hard that I hate giving treats 😅 so painful! One trainer told me to wear gloves lol
Janet Sedy
You might try training “wait”.
Charles Ditoro
One trainer I watched said to try giving treats using a flat palm.
SUPAY
Excellent video. Exactly which “treat” are you giving her?. I have a 14 weeks old American Bulldog and he has been picky with the last two “treats” I bought him.
Thank you 👍🏼

Awesome – thank you!

Great lessons. I’m dealing with a 14 week old Sheltie who exhibits the stubborn Sheltie mindset. He hates the leash and any immobilization he takes as an escalation and either has a meltdown or pulls away super hard. If he does actually settle, he goes right back to crazy/nippy mode as if the calming actions are a game. He’s a smart cookie, but not really food or treat motivated yet. Hoping repetition will move his behaviors.

Great idea… never heard of a settle command. I have a rehoming blue healer puppy. She has many issues and learning to play with dogs has been interesting. Her fear level around other dogs playing was strange to observe. She took two days to join in. Just running around and being told she was a “good girl ” was new to her. Don’t know the true history. She still watches the others herding sheep. She is too young and fearful for herding training. We are getting the Fondation first. It’s only her second week. I enjoy your work

Thank you for this video. Your training techniques are always gentle. Our newest puppy has boundless energy, and although we currently have a trainer, we find your videos the best of any videos we’ve watched. Your techniques are tremendously helpful!

Your videos were such a great help two years ago with my first puppy and I am back again for my second puppy! Hard to believe my second one is even wilder than the first, but also less food motivated (very interesting experience) Our newest member is a quick learner though, so it makes it balances out. This video is coming at EXACTLY the right moment, thanks so much! 🎉
